Meet Our Latest Borrower: Batter Bakery

After two years of part-time “tinkering” and recipe experimenting, owner Jennifer Musty launched Batter Bakery in 2008. Since that time, Batter is continuing to grow from a one-woman business to some full-fledged local bakery that's designed a name for itself alongside several iconic Bay area favorites.

During their first 3 years, Batter operated from a shared commissary kitchen. After opening Batter's first retail spot (a little kiosk on a corner of San Francisco's Financial District), the organization began to receive an overwhelmingly positive response from customers. Because of the loyalty of their regulars, Batter's kiosk has turned into a sweet Financial District landmark.

They also support the broader local economy here in the San francisco bay area. Batter sources all its produce from local farmers, and employ only what is in season.

In 2011, Batter opened a brick-and-mortar kitchen and retail store, which they operated like a joint concept distributed to a fellow business. This past year, the company they shared space with unfortunately closed, leaving Batter looking for a brand new home. After weighing all of the options, Jen made the decision to maneuver to their own space in one of the most growing rapidly corridors of the city.

But, when they visited their bank to secure a loan to move, they faced obstacles to approval. So that they found PCV – which was our sweet luck! Now we're cooperating to assist Jen and her team grow, create new jobs, and make Batter a lasting fixture in the new neighborhood.
